Like a tree flowering a bizarre blossom of blown plastic Taxi Gallery was enfolded in a seductive but sinister shroud. School children and their families from Abbey Meadows and Coleridge Schools as well as the Taxi Gallery community collected plastic bags and packaging. In just a few months they assembled a disturbingly large mass of plastic which was transformed by Pamela into a unique installation for Taxi Gallery.
Second Skin is part of series of works by Pamela Wells all of which use locally collected plastic packaging to raise both serious and playful questions about place, the fabric of everyday life and what can be material for art.

Pamela Wells is from California, now based in the West Midlands, England.
Exhibiting internationally, she uses a wide range of materials - everything from paint to clay to plastic - to make objects, installations or
performances. Pamela generally develops her work in response to specific places or situations, often inviting people to participate in or contribute to her processes in slightly unusual ways.
For "Quit the Day Job" in 2004, Pamela undertook a 10-month residency as an office worker. Recently she been working on a project in Poland, "Chasing Rainbows – This Beautiful Impossible Pursuit" which will culminate in May with artworks shown in shop windows across Warsaw. This summer Pamela embarks on "Dishinit", drawing on the history of the Potteries to create sets of bowls for people in Stoke-on-Trent. She is currently developing projects in Stockholm and Venice.
