Tenju
A 45 minute recording of one of the worlds great taxi rides, a cycle-rickshaw
journey through the streets of Old Delhi. Starting from the chaos of Chandni
Chowk, we are taken
through the quiet as well as the hustle of the labyrinthine back streets,
the gridlock of traffic and the greetings from passers-by. All along the
piercing whistles from Tenju, our driver, punctuate the sound as he loudly
alerts other road users to our presence. Finally as the lunchtime muezzin
calls out from the Kalan Masjid, we arrive back into 21st century India
and the deafening roar of motorised transport on Asaf Ali Road. This recording
was made as part of the on going Silkthreads project supported by Arts
Council England (Eastern Region)
