| Christopher Holtom's practice explores theories of space, memory and narrative through the media of video, installation and sound. Everyday’ Food Courts. Sound recordings on CD. 4 minutes and 32 seconds. The composition, ‘Everyday’ Food Courts, made in response to the Radio Taxi theme of ‘Everyday’, is a montage of sound bites collected from food halls across Australia and England. The transitional and uniform nature of these globalised spaces, re-enforcing specific behavioural patterns, whilst generating monotonous, over-arching soundscapes, are becoming more central within our everyday lives. ‘Everyday’ Food Courts fragments these sounds and behaviours, and re-constructs them in a dialogical fashion to both challenge and explore our perception of these complex, social spaces.
